Manual Osteopathy

Manual Osteopathy is a hands-on manual therapy that treats the whole person looking for the root cause of pain and dysfunction. The body may have learned to compensate for past traumatic events or injuries that maybe causing symptoms and dysfunction in other areas of the body. Manual osteopaths are primarily concerned with the events that led to the dysfunction or compromised health rather than the resulting condition. Thus, the aim is to treat the person rather than the condition and to support the body’s natural self-healing potential.

Manual osteopaths conduct a detailed assessment of the body to gain a thorough understanding of where there may be restrictions and how those restrictions impact how the body is functioning as a whole. Through specific and subtle palpation skills the trained manual osteopath can detect areas of strain or dysfunction in the body and assist to restore the body to balance. It is a rehabilitative therapy, wellness therapy and excellent form of chronic pain management.

Some of the techniques that manual osteopaths use: gentle Osteoarticular Joint Mobilizations, Muscle Energy Techniques, Facilitated Stretching, Visceral Manipulation, Cranial Osteopathy and a variety of Soft tissue techniques.

Manual Osteopathy can treat a variety of symptoms including Chronic Pain Management, Jaw pain & TMJ Dysfunction, Postural Imbalances, Low back, SI & hip pain, neck, shoulder and upper back pain, Headaches, Scar Tissue, Pain & restriction in the arms, wrist, legs, knees, ankles, Nerve impingement. Manual Osteopathic treatment often helps reduce symptoms of physician diagnosed conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, TOS, Sciatic, Golfers & Tennis elbow & Migraines.

The client is asked to wear loose comfortable clothing to allow the manual osteopathy to be able to move the joints in different positions to allow for joint mobilizations, facilitated stretching, soft tissue manipulation, cranial osteopathy and visceral manipulation.

Each time you come for treatment your body will have processed and changed from the previous treatment, thus your manual osteopath will assess what your body needs that day. Each treatment is specific and custom tailored to your needs in that moment.
